WizPerk Privacy Policy
This Policy applies to WizPerk, WizPerk Business, our websites, QR reward pages, Wallet passes, and related Stage 1 services (together, the "Services"). It explains what personal information we handle, why we handle it, who may receive it, and the choices you have.
Quick Navigation
1. Privacy Summary
- What we collect: account and business details when provided; a random guest-session identifier; coupon scan, selection, save, Wallet, and redemption activity; optional location; uploaded business and coupon content; and basic device, request, and security logs.
- Why we use it: to operate accounts, show eligible offers, save only selected coupons, prevent duplicate or abusive claims, support Wallet passes and redemption, show nearby content, provide support, and secure the Services.
- How offers are ordered: the offers shown after a scan are chosen by what the businesses are, how far apart they are, and - if you have saved offers before - what you chose previously. Businesses cannot pay for a place in that order, and no payment or commission figure is used to rank them. You can use the Services without ever having saved anything, and the ordering still works.
- What we do not collect: we do not record where you are when an offer is recommended to you. Distances used to pick nearby offers are measured between the participating businesses themselves, not between you and them. A guest session is identified only by an irreversible value derived from a random identifier in your browser, and carries no name, email address, or phone number.
- Who may receive it: participating businesses when needed to validate a coupon; Apple or Google when you request a Wallet pass; and providers that support hosting, storage, sign-in, verification, maps, communications, security, and support.
- Important consequences: a saved coupon and its redemption status are linked to your account or guest session. Wallet providers receive pass information. If you enable location, coordinates may be sent to WizPerk and a map provider. Information processed outside Canada may be available to foreign authorities under their laws.
Stage 1 does not use WizPerk to process a customer's payment to a business, and WizPerk does not collect a redemption commission.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide, information created when you use the Services, and limited technical information needed to operate and protect the Services.
QR scans and guest coupon activity
- You can use a public QR reward page without creating a named customer account. We create a random guest-session identifier for the browser or device and store a protected form on our server.
- We record the public reward link, participating business, eligible coupons shown, coupons selected or not selected, save attempts, claim and redemption status, limits, and related timestamps.
- We may keep aggregate or security events even when a displayed recommendation is not selected. An unselected recommendation is not added to your saved-coupon list.
Customer account information
If you create or use a customer account, we may collect your name, email address, phone number, avatar, preferences, and sign-in or verification details associated with email, phone, Apple, or Google. We also keep records of the legal terms and privacy version accepted.
Business account, profile, and offer information
- Business account email and phone number, business name, category, address, city, province or state, postal or zip code, country, website and social links, verification status, and records of legal acceptance and business authority.
- Business logos, gallery media, coupon images, offer titles, descriptions, conditions, expiry dates, limits, locations, QR link status, and other content submitted to operate a business listing or offer.
- Support messages, verification material, and other information you choose to send us.
Wallet and redemption information
- Selected coupon details, participating business, claim and redemption status, Wallet provider, provider pass or object identifiers, save link or save-attempt status, and timestamps.
- For Apple Wallet updates, Apple may provide a device-library identifier and push token. We use them to register and send pass updates, including an update after redemption. We also use protected pass authentication and serial identifiers.
- For Google Wallet, we create provider object identifiers and pass content needed for the selected coupons.
We can record that a Wallet pass was requested or that a save was attempted. The Wallet provider controls the final add, display, sync, update, and removal on a device, so our record may not always prove that the pass remains installed.
Location information
When you grant foreground location permission, we may receive precise device coordinates to sort or show nearby businesses and saved coupons. Location may be cached temporarily on your device to reduce repeat requests. A map or reverse-geocoding provider, currently OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service for certain web location labels, may receive coordinates and related network information.
Device, request, and security information
- IP address, browser or app type, timestamps, request and response metadata, diagnostic events, and security or abuse signals.
- Authentication or session tokens stored locally to keep you signed in, and random redemption credentials used to validate coupons.
3. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- create, verify, authenticate, and manage customer and business accounts;
- publish business profiles and active coupon offers;
- open QR reward pages and determine which non-duplicate offers are eligible;
- save selected coupons and avoid saving recommendations that were not selected;
- apply claim limits or waiting periods and prevent duplicate, fraudulent, or abusive activity;
- create, register, deliver, update, and troubleshoot Apple Wallet and Google Wallet passes;
- validate and record coupon redemption with the participating business;
- show nearby businesses or offers when location permission is granted;
- send sign-in, verification, service, security, and support communications;
- send optional marketing only where permitted and with the required consent;
- monitor reliability, investigate problems, secure the Services, and improve current features; and
- comply with law, respond to lawful requests, and enforce our Terms.
We do not use a Privacy Policy as permission to collect information for any unrelated purpose. If we introduce a materially different use, we will provide notice and obtain consent where required.
5. Permissions and Device Access
Depending on the feature you choose, we may request:
- Camera: to scan QR or coupon codes and, in a business feature, to capture permitted business or offer media.
- Photos and media library: to select a profile, business, coupon, or other supported image or video.
- Foreground location: to show or sort nearby businesses and coupons while you use a location-based feature.
- Wallet access and notifications: Apple or Google may ask for device- or account-level permission to add, show, or update a pass under their own settings.
You can decline or revoke optional device permissions in your device settings. The related feature may become unavailable, but unrelated parts of the Services should continue to work where technically possible.
6. Retention and Security
We keep personal information only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described above. The period depends on the type of record and whether an account, coupon, Wallet pass, redemption, dispute, security review, or legal obligation remains active.
- Account and business profile information is generally kept while the account is active.
- Coupon claim, selection, save, and redemption records may be kept while the coupon is active and for a reasonable period afterward to support redemption history, disputes, security, and abuse prevention.
- Wallet registration information may be kept while a pass can receive updates and for a reasonable period needed to reconcile removal, redemption, support, or security events.
- Temporary device caches are kept for short operational periods and may be cleared through app, browser, or device controls.
- Security, consent, verification, support, backup, and legal records may be retained longer when reasonably required.
When information is no longer needed, we delete it, de-identify it, or isolate it from ordinary use, subject to reasonable backup cycles and legal or security requirements.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed for the sensitivity of the information. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
7. Your Choices and Rights
- You can review or update supported account and profile fields in the app.
- You can decline or revoke camera, photo, and location permissions in device settings.
- You can choose which recommended coupons to save. A recommendation you do not select is not added to your saved-coupon list, although limited aggregate or security events may remain.
- You can remove a pass through Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Removing a pass does not automatically delete the related WizPerk coupon, redemption, security, or legal record.
- You can unsubscribe from optional marketing using the method in the message. Service, security, and account messages may still be sent when needed.
- You may request access to or correction of your personal information, subject to applicable law.
- You may withdraw consent, subject to legal or contractual limits. If the information is necessary for a feature, that feature may stop working.
- You may request account or personal-data deletion through the WizPerk account deletion page or by contacting the Privacy Officer.
We may need to verify your identity before completing an access, correction, or deletion request. Some records may be retained where permitted or required for security, abuse prevention, disputes, legal compliance, or to record a request not to contact you.
8. Children's Privacy
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. A minor who cannot meaningfully consent must use the Services only with consent from a parent or legal guardian. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact the Privacy Officer so we can review it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy when the Services, law, or our practices change. We will post the updated version and change the date above. If a change is material, or if we want to use information for a new purpose that requires consent, we will provide an additional notice or ask for consent as required by law.
10. Contact the Privacy Officer
For privacy questions, access or correction requests, complaints, or data-deletion requests, contact the WizPerk Privacy Officer at info@wizperk.com. You may also use the WizPerk account deletion page.
If we do not resolve your privacy concern, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or, where applicable, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
